 3. Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Training Begins, Sept. 13

children.cartoonColumbia Gorge CASA begins its Fall Volunteer Training on September 13th in Hood River. Columbia Gorge CASA is a local nonprofit that recruits, trains and supports community volunteers to advocate for kids who are in foster care in Sherman, Wasco and Hood River counties. The volunteer commitment is 7-10 hours per month. The training course is 5 weeks long and involves 3 hours of interactive, on-line training and 3 hours of weekly in-person training. After successfully completing the application process and training, a local Circuit Court Judge swears each volunteer into service as a Court Appointed Special Advocate.  4. New Business, Second Hand Made, is now Open for Business in Wasco 

food.coffee.teaMegan (Pinkerton) Jensen invites shoppers to stop by and see what she has to offer… gifts, cards,and treats of all kinds! Located on Clark Street between the Wasco Market and the Locust Tree Salon, Second Hand Made is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

The kitchen is newly licensed and Espressos and other favorite coffee drinks, fresh baked goodies, and baked goods to order will be offered. A daily lunch special will be coming in September!

For every $5 you spend, you will receive a ticket for a chance to win a special edition Crater Lake National Park Pendleton Blanket!  Drawing will be held on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016.

Parents: We have the fair entry forms ready to fill out with the list of projects. All you have to do is deliver the projects to the Open Class Pavilion at the fairgrounds on Wednesday, August 24th.

Entry Fees:

  1.    No Entry fees for this division

 

Entries Accepted:

  1. Entries will be accepted until 6:00 pm on  Wednesday August 24, 2016
  2. Entries for the Kitchen Products Division are made in the Open Class building, located under the main grandstands.
  3. Entry form follows this section and can also be found on our website on the forms tab.
  4. Junior Class just add the letter “J” behind the class number.  You are junior if you are in the grades of 9-12.
  5. Entries must be made by 6:00 pm on Wednesday of Fair week and can be delivered Thursday morning by 8:15 before judging.  (They must be entered on Wednesday)
  6.  NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE JUDGED.

 

Special Notes and Rules

  1. Note: All canned goods must be in standard jars and lids (Kerr or Ball only), Labeled with ** Method of processing (water bath or pressure cooker)

  1. Paraffin is no longer acceptable.
  2. Judges have the option to open jars.
  3. Rings on jars must be clean and rust free.
  4. Please call the local extension office for the latest updated version of home canning regulations.
  5. Please make note of how items are ask to show up for their class. (plate of, wrapped, labels etc.)
  6. Dried foods will be displayed in standard glass jars. Half pint jars are suggested. Must be labeled with variety. One half cup or more required.

Appearance, Texture/Consistency, Flavor, Pack appearance & Product quality

Release of Exhibits:

Exhibits will be released on Sunday August 28, at 4:00 p.m. this time is subject to change and will be posted in the Open Class Pavilion and announced during the fair week.
