1.Spiritual Matters

church.family1The Sherman County Catholic Community consists of St. Mary Church in Wasco and St. John the Baptist in Grass Valley.   Father Fabian Nwokorie from Nigeria serves as priest, and is a throwback to the old “circuit rider” pastors as he actually serves a total of four rural Catholic churches:  Wasco, Grass Valley,  St. Alphonsus in Dufur and St. Mary in Maupin.

All the parishes shared Father Fabian’s time on weekends for Mass, with rotating schedules for services. In Sherman County, Catholic Mass is held on Sundays during the six months of April through September. During that period, Dufur and Maupin hold Saturday evening services. In the fall, the Saturday/Sunday schedule switches for October through March.

If that sounds confusing…sometimes it is…even the “regulars” sometimes get confused and show up at the wrong church at the wrong time or on the wrong day!

You are always welcome at Mass. The Sherman County Catholic Community would love to have you with us!

Now through September 2016, Sunday Masses are held at St. Mary, Wasco on Sundays at 8:00am and at St. John the Baptist in Grass Valley at 10:00am. The Sherman County Catholic Community joins together monthly for a combined 9am Mass in Wasco followed by a potluck meal on the fourth Sunday of each month.   The community hopes to hold the June and August services in Grass Valley, followed by a potluck at a parishioner’s home.

To get a copy of the weekly bulletin, email editor Kathleen Danielson at sundaybulletin@embarqmail.com.  Father Fabian may be reached at 541-442-8560 or 541-279-9885.  Molly Belshe is President of the Catholic parish council at 541-565-3315.  Interested in renting the parish hall in Wasco?
