The president of Dist. G Lions Region 36, Paul Zastrow, is our guest speaker Monday at noon.  Lions will celebrate the installation of any new members at that time.  Bring your filled out application or just speak to one of us. President  Geremy Shull will be welcoming members and guests in time for that meeting.  We pick up our lunch in the dining room and then meet in the side room. Guests are welcome!



2. Wasco Community Library Christmas Bazaar, Dec. 12, 13

Wasco Community Library Christmas Bazaar

Saturday, December 12

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Wasco Annex, 903 Barnett Street, Wasco, Oregon

Come and join the Christmas festivities. Santa will be there along with Tom Lepinski giving sleigh rides for everyone, using Wasco’s red tractor and wagon.


There will be free games for the kids, refreshments and door prizes.  Everyone who comes to this event receives a raffle ticket plus another ticket for each $5.00 spent at a vendor’s booth.

The Wasco Community/City Library will have their annual Christmas book sale, as a fundraiser, and this year we are adding a raffle for one of two original oil paintings (your choice ). Tickets will be $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.

We welcome all vendors who wish to participate in this annual event.

On Sunday, Dec. 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. continues the book sale and vendors will be present

After the holiday bazaar at the Sherman County High School on Dec 5, if you would like to continue selling your goods, tables are available for Wasco’s Christmas Bazaar and Fundraiser the following weekend. Saturday, Dec. 12 and Sunday, Dec. 13,    11 am to 3 pm  book sale and vendors will be present.

3. Highway Construction: Wasco & Sherman Counties Week of Dec. 6th 


I-84: The Dalles – Fifteenmile Creek MP 83.5 – 88.5

Wildish Standard Paving Company will be replacing the concrete pavement located on Interstate 84 within the city limits of The Dalles. They will also be constructing a new bridge on I-84 over Threemile Creek. The work will take place in stages in order to minimize delays and ensure that both freeway lanes are open in each direction during peak traffic volumes this summer and over holiday weekends.

Starting September 8th traffic will be placed in a single lane in each direction to continue the second major stage of construction. During this stage construction, the westbound lanes will be removed and replaced with 12 inches of continually reinforced concrete. The second major stage of construction will be completed by Thanksgiving 2015.

During the week of December 6th – December 12th the contractor will be working 3 Mile Creek Bridge and traffic will be in single lane configuration. I-84 travel lanes will be reduced to a single lane in the East and westbound direction from MP 87.0to MP 86.0. The single lane configuration will be in place till the bridge work can be completed. Speeds have been reduced to 50mph on I84 through the work zone. Traffic can expect minimal to 20min delays.

US 97: Moro to Madras

KERR Contractors will be replacing 29 miles of pavement on U.S. 97 between Grass Valley (MP 27.1) and Shaniko (MP 56.7). The project also includes the construction of passing lanes between MP 43.8 and MP 45.4, installation of new highway signs between Moro and Madras, and adding ADA compliant sidewalk ramps in Grass Valley.

The contractor will not be performing any work onsite. Traffic can expect no delays.

4. Position: Assistant Retail Division Manager

Mid Columbia Producers is a farmer owned risk management cooperative with facilities in Sherman, Wasco, Klickitat, Morrow, Gilliam and Deschutes counties and a market presence throughout the Pacific Northwest.

MCP is seeking applicants to join our team as the Assistant Retail Division Manager. This position will require a hands-on management approach. The chosen candidate will be responsible for the oversight and coordination efforts of our three farm stores located in Goldendale, The Dalles and Wasco.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 Communicating areas that are in need of attention to each of the store managers

 Providing training and direction to the store managers through performance evaluations as well as verbal and written coaching

 Assisting in the daily unloading of trucks, transferring products throughout the division as well as maintaining the grounds and equipment as needed

 Demonstrating awareness and compliance with loss prevention, safety policies and/or procedures

 Monitor competitive pricing, product and brand offerings, promotional activity, to insure MCP is appropriately priced and product/pricing/promotional opportunities are identified and captured

 Identifying and executing goals and objectives to reach maximum profitability throughout the division

 Making sound business decisions regarding product selection, order quantities, inventory management, gross margin management and vendor negotiations

 Safeguarding assets and consistently working toward maintaining a safe environment for customers and employees



 Must be able to operate a vehicle with a GVW of 10,000 lbs. or more, with or without a trailer in tow

 Lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to approximately 100 lbs.

 Must be within a reasonable commuting distance to each of the locations

 Experience and/or knowledge of feed programs, farm supply and hardware

 Must possess basic computer knowledge and be able to navigate with little assistance

 Must be able to accommodate a varying work schedule

 Operate with initiative, commitment, strong work ethic & sense of urgency.

Employment will be contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment physical, drug screen, background check and MVR.

 5. Sherman County Public/School Library Mitten Tree

Bring your donations of gloves, mittens, hats and scarves to decorate the Mitten Tree at Sherman County Public/School Library located in Moro.   Community, school staff and students are encouraged to adorn the bare branches with warmth.   We are also requesting warm throws and blankets to place under the tree.   The Mitten Tree will be up through the end of December and all donated items will be given to our local food bank and other agencies that serve Sherman County.
